Friends

There is no way to put a value on friendship for a true friend is both invaluable and irreplaceable.  A friend sent this to me recently after a discussion (of sorts) about the importance and meaning of friendship. I wanted to share it.

To desire what is best for the other
Sympathy and empathy
Honesty, perhaps in situations where it may be difficult to speak the truth
Mutual understanding and compassion; ability to go to each other for emotional support
Enjoyment of each others company
Trust in one another
Positive reciprocity — a relationship based on equal give and take between the two parties.
The ability to be oneself, express one's feelings and make mistakes without fear of judgement

So true, Allison! And yet, how many of your friends can you list who meet these requirements. I can count mine on one hand, what about you?

It's not so much about the quantity as the quality.
