Best of Summer

Even though autumn doesn't officially start until September 23, we are in the final stretches of summer now.   The days are getting noticeably shorter  (2 minutes a day) and cooler.   There is a feeling that only autumn brings that is hard to describe.  A sadness at something over that we should have grasped more fully. The ending of the longer relaxed days, less rigid schedules, and sipping summer drinks.  For many the hustle and bustle of getting ready for back to school starts now.  My daughter is grappling with the unfamiliar feeling of not going to school for the first time since she was six while my son is feeling the nervous excitement of starting college.  Milestones for both.

It seems like summer just started and it is now near the end.  How quickly time goes.

“Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of the earth.”
― Henry David ThoreauWalden

The best of summer.. sunflowers, corn and peaches.

The last two weeks of August start with a week vacation for me. I have plans for the garden! A boxwood is being returned (sorry boxwood) as it is not quite the right thing for that corner of the house. A difficult spot as it requires something with upright growth that requires no sun. Hmmm. The nine bark I am satisfied with so it will stay. It should give some nice fall colour.
