Extending the Garden

I am of the belief that you garden can never be big enough. Certainly mine isn't.  Many of my perennials that I planted when I moved here are now three years old and will be ready to divide.  I had to make some room for them.  Using my edging tool I cut the sod into manageable brick sized pieces and then turned it over so the grass would die and still provide important nutrients to the garden.  Next weekend the topsoil will arrive and shovelling that by the wheelbarrow loads will remind me of what muscles I don't use often enough.  I don't mind.. gardening is not work to me. I love it all.

Cut through the sod with an edging tool or spade.

Turn it over so the grass dies.

Voila.. bigger garden
