My Left Foot
My left foot is what is getting me around these days along with a pair of crutches after fracturing my right foot in two places and tearing ligaments last weekend. Unlike the book of the same title - My Left Foot - the story of Christy Brown, I have the use of my arms as well as my left foot. If you have not seen the movie version of the story staring Daniel Day Lewis, I recommend it. Especially if, like me, you are in the middle of a (self) pity party.
So here I am at the start of gardening and hiking season with limited (painful) mobility. A bit frustrating, but I remind myself it is temporary. A few people have suggested the this is the Universe telling me that perhaps it is time to slow down a little bit. As someone who has a hard time sitting still and letting others do things for me this is tough for me.
I had a lot of plans for this long weekend in May, the traditional planting weekend. We will still be planting the vegetables and annuals, but I will be doing more of the supervision rather than any physical work - although I do hope to be able to plant the pots (as they are brought to me, one by one). Very sad for me is the delay of any hiking for quite a few weeks while my foot heals thoroughly. I am disapointed about missing Spring in the forest and feel I have let down my hiking partners. On top of that a visit to Victoria to visit my Mum has been canceled until we can reschedule.
But life goes on, one footed. I am thinking now of some things I can do that I normally say I have no time for .. blogging for one; reading; watching movies; doing puzzles and doing some artwork.( I have a crafty craft idea in mind for later in the week). I will try to make the best and most of my down time as much as I can.
While I am busy healing my team at home has had to pick up the slack doing all the housework and errands as well as fetching for me on a regular basis. My daughter has become my official chauffeur for the coming weeks (lucky gal). Thank you family. And a a special thanks goes to my left foot that is working extra hard hauling me around - thank you Left Foot.
